Wayne S. Freeman

Wayne S. Freeman of Elliottsburg, age 93, passed away on April 20, 2023 in UPMC Harrisburg Hospital.  Born at home on the farm on January 29, 1930 to the late James K. and Esther (Weibley) Freeman, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who entertained his children from supper to bedtime.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Fern (Smith) Freeman.  He was a kind and devoted husband whose last words to his wife, Fern, were “I love you.”  In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children:  Debra (Fred) Noye, Mark Freeman, and Matthew (Tina) Freeman, all of Elliottsburg, and Luke (Audrey) Freeman of Carlisle; five grandchildren:  Jeremy (Mayes) Noye of Upper Saddle River, NJ; Andrew (Angie) Noye of Bluffton, SC, Rachel Freeman of Mt. Holly Springs, Kate Freeman of New Bloomfield, and Kyle Freeman of Elliottsburg; two step-grandchildren:  Denise (Knute) Brayford of Frackville and Cheryl (Jay) Stover of Mechanicsburg; and ten great grandchildren:  Grace, Katarina, Valentina, Edyn, Isla, Ainsley, Aaron, Emma, Addison, and Aiden;.  In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by his sister, Fay Wilson.

Wayne lived and farmed his entire life in Tyrone Township until he became ill.  Wayne retired about 10 years ago from a career of farming and selling seeds for Channel.  He was passionate about hunting and enjoyed every minute of his 25 years as Deputy Game Warden.  He was a member of the State Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, which was an elected position limited to eight years.  He earned several high yield trophies from the county and state Five Acre Corn Club and was the last living member of the original 1966 Restland Cemetery Board of Directors.  He was President of the Restland Cemetery Board of Directors from 2004 – 2021.  Wayne was also a member of Tressler Memorial Free Lutheran Church in Loysville.

Funeral services for Wayne will be held on Saturday, April 29 in the calming chapel in Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc. in Loysville.  The visitation will be held from 10 AM to noon.  The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 12 noon, officiated by Rev. Bill Pipp.  Interment will follow the funeral service at Restland Cemetery.  Memorial contributions can be made to Restland Cemetery, c/o Rose Heisey, 1342 Valley Road, Marysville, PA  17053.
