Virginia Mae (Smith) Ernest, age 89 of Loysville, entered her eternal home on Saturday, December 31, 2022. Known as “Sis” by some of her family, she was born at home on October 5, 1933 to the late William J. and Minnie (Reisinger) Smith of Blain. Virginia’s primary joy in life was raising her family. She was a phenomenal wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 62 years, Dean Ernest, and her three brothers: Harold Smith, Neil Smith, and Gene Smith. She is survived by three sons: Dale Ernest, Mark Ernest and John Ernest, all of Loysville; and a grandson, Brandon Rudy of Middletown.
In addition to raising a family and running a household, Virginia also worked in a clerical position for the PA State Police in Harrisburg, Blain Sewing Factory, and the Carlisle Shoe Factory. She was a homemaker for over 50 years and raised three boys. She enjoyed fishing, baking, and playing softball and basketball in school. She also enjoyed the outdoors and spending time at camp in Tioga County. She was a member of Sandy Hill United Church of Christ in Loysville, and volunteered with Blain Ambulance, Blain Fire Company and was a past member of the Blain Ladies Auxiliary.
Funeral services for Virginia will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Sandy Hill United Church of Christ, 6300 Tuscarora Path, Loysville, PA 17047. The visitation will be held from 9 to 11 AM. The funeral service will begin at 11 AM, with Pastor Don Funk officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in Blain Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in Virginia’s name to Sandy Hill United Church of Christ, 6300 Tuscarora Path, Loysville, PA 17047
