Verna M. (Nester) McGarvey

Verna M. (Nester) McGarvey, 82, passed away Friday, April 3, 2020 at her home in Elliottsburg.

Born November 2, 1937 in Dillsburg, she was the daughter of the late Lyman and Helen (Brandt) Nester, was a graduate of Northern High School, and attended Messiah College.

She joins in Heaven her beloved husband, John E. “Jack” McGarvey, who passed away in January of this year after over 52 years of marriage.

Verna was a member of Saville Brethren in Christ Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher. She retired as an aide at West Perry School District and had been a proofreader for the Evangelical Press.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother: Marlin E. Nester and Robert A. Nester and sister: Ethel R. Shultz.

Surviving are her children: William M. McGarvey, Elliottsburg and Laura L. (McGarvey) Miller (and her husband, Randy), Elliottsburg; one sister: Vilma D. Coken (and her husband, Harry), Dillsburg; her brother: Francis M. Nester (and his wife, Lois), Mechanicsburg; 2 grandchildren: Aleah McGarvey and Logan Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family, but a memorial service will be planned in the near future. Burial will be in Blain Cemetery.

In her memory, contributions may be made to any charity dedicated to children.
