Thomas G. Dum, Jr., age 93 of Elliottsburg, left this Earth and joined his Heavenly Father on December 23, 2025. Born at home on June 12, 1932, to the late Thomas G. and Hazel I. (Crozier) Dum of Elliottsburg, Thomas is survived by three sons: Thomas G. Dum, III (Rebecca) of Elliottsburg, Alan E. Dum (Tara) of Boiling Springs, and Jacob A. Dum (Brenda) of Tifton, GA; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 9 great great grandchildren; and four siblings: Donald L. Dum and Benjamin E. Dum – both of Elliottsburg and Charles D. Dum and Sara Ann Sheely – both of Mechanicsburg. Thomas is preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie A. (Reisinger) Dum and his second wife, Elizabeth M. (Kelly) Dum; two children: Joseph D. Dum and Joan L. Dum; and his grandson, Isaac Dum.
Thomas graduated with the 1950 Class of GreenPark Union High School. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Elliottsburg and later attended McClure’s Gap Church of God in Newville with his second wife. Thomas was a dairy farmer all his life and Holsteins were his breed of choice! Farming has always been intergenerational, and dairy farming is no different. Thomas shared his passion for Holsteins with both his children and grandchildren. One grandson, Quinn, also follows the passion for Holsteins. Thomas and Quinn would spend hours together talking about their experiences and sharing their love of the Holsteins. In February 2025, Thomas was inducted into the Pennsylvania Holstein Association Hall of Fame. Naturally, he was a lifelong member of the Holstein Association. He retired in 1997 from the National Holstein Association, where he worked for 17 years. After he retired, Thomas worked part time at Claremont Nursing Home and Montgomery Wards department store.
In his free time, Thomas was an enthusiastic sports fan for the Baltimore Orioles, Penn State Football and Basketball, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. His favorite pastime was going out to eat with family and friends.
As Thomas wished, a private graveside service will be held at Elliottsburg Evangelical Cemetery, with Pastor Eric Petty officiating. The family is planning a memorial service in the summer, when everyone will be invited to celebrate Thomas’ life. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital online at https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html
