Sandra L. (Hoffman) McDonel

Sandra L. (Hoffman) McDonel, 73, of Landisburg, joined her Lord and many beloved family members in Heaven on Monday, March 16, 2020 at Holy Spirit Hospital.

Born September 13, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Hoffman and Phyllis Speck and was also preceded in death by a daughter: Linda K. McDonel; a son: Jeffrey L. McDonel; a brother: Murray Hoffman; and a sister: Ruth Ann Hoffman.

Sandy, or “Nan” as most called her, was a valued and active member of the New Bloomfield VFW Post 7463 Auxiliary, helping with banquets and catering, and known to many as “The Cookie Lady”. She was also a member of the Newport American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Hunter’s Valley Sportsmen’s Club in Liverpool, and the Moose Lodge. With her family, she traveled to Punta Cana, Dominican Republican so often that the staff at the Caribe Club Princess resort considered all of them family.

Always ready to help everyone, she enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and taking care of her family. She loved old country and western music, especially Conway Twitty and was an avid fan of Elvis. A woman of firm opinions, she was ‘always right’, to the point that her husband marked the one time she was wrong on their calendar. Her humor and love of family will be dearly missed.

Surviving is her husband of 57 years, Charles L. McDonel, III; one daughter: Kathy L. Lowe (and Jere), Shermans Dale and one son: Kevin C. McDonel, Elliottsburg; 2 sisters: Mary Lou Hoffman, Harrisburg and Leona Hoffman, Mechanicsburg; 2 brothers: Mike Hoffman, Hummelstown and Thomas Hoffman, New York; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Restland Cemetery, Loysville.
