Samuel Harrold, Jr. Obituary

Samuel M. Harrold, Jr., 76 of Loysville, died on June 13, 2026, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Harrisburg on March 14, 1950, to the late Samuel M. and Grace Laverna (Hill) Harrold, Sr., Sam is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Vesta Pauline (Duncan) Harrold; four children (and their significant others): Jennifer (Matthew), Suzanna (Corey), Charyle (Brian) and Kristina (Cody); and three grandchildren:  Uriah, Elijah, and Reagan.  In addition to his parents, Sam is preceded in death by his two sisters, Jean and Shirley.

After graduating with the 1969 Class of Susquenita High School, Sam continued his education at Harrisburg Area Community College.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army until 1971.  Upon his return to civilian life, Sam worked as a gunsmith, machinist, and a tool and die maker.  He also dabbled in construction.

He was truly one of a kind, a man who possessed a rare curiosity and a legendary collection of dad jokes. He considered himself a lifelong student, always reading, learning, and educating himself on something new. Animals recognized his gentle soul instantly; he was a true animal whisperer who rarely sat down without a beloved pet happily curled up on his lap. He filled his days with the things he loved. Among his favorite adventures were trips to Colorado where he loved prospecting for gold with his nephew, Sammy. He held a deep appreciation for planes, cars, and guns, but absolutely nothing came close to the love he had for his wife. She was the center of his world, and his love for her outshone everything else

Sam’s services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
