Ruby (Britcher) Schlusser, 81, of Landisburg, died on Sunday, July 11, 2021 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born at home on September 14, 1939 to the late William and Florence (Bender) Britcher of Eschol.
She is survived by her dedicated husband of 42 years, John C Schlusser, a daughter, Cindy (Jeffrey T.) Smith of Blain; three grandchildren: Anthony (Petrina) Smith, Joseph Smith, and Erin (Travis) Dillman, all of Blain; and eight great grandchildren: Cameron, Rae, and Vernon Smith, Matthew and Adam Smith, and Jordan, Allison and Cole Dillman. Ruby is also survived by three siblings: Thelma Flickinger of Blain, Dennis Britcher of Newport, and Barbara Irvine of Loysville. In addition to her parents, Ruby is preceded in death by five brothers: Robert Britcher, William Britcher, Jr., Max Britcher, Carl Britcher, and Dale Britcher.
Ruby was a lady who loved to stay busy. After high school, she worked at Maslands, Blain Sewing Factory, and New Bloomfield Sewing Factory. She was also part owner of Woodside Roller Rink in Honey Grove, and John & Ruby’s Apple Cider, which was always a hit at Shermans Valley Heritage Days. In her spare time, she made crafts with her husband John to sell at various craft shows. She also enjoyed painting, gardening flowers, and jigsaw puzzles. She was a big Elvis fan and enjoyed collecting his memorabilia. Ruby was a member of Shermans Valley Heritage Days and Honey Grove Methodist Church (now closed).
A viewing will be held at Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home located at 3626 Shermans Valley Rd in Loysville from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on July 14, 2021. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 noon, officiated by Pastor Brad Bennett. Interment will follow the funeral service at Westminster Cemetery, 1159 Newville Road, Carlisle.
