Ruby Irene (Lyons) Kitner

Ruby (Lyons) Kitner of Shermans Dale, age 94, was called home to her Heavenly Father on December 3, 2022.  Born at home on April 8, 1928 to the late David “Ray” and Pauline (Junkins) Lyons of Loysville, Ruby was a devoted mother, grandmother and sister.  She is survived by two children:  Kirby (Tina) Kitner of New Bloomfield and Kim (Scott) Taylor of Elliottsburg; three grandchildren:  Cristi (John) Kitner of Enola, Ian (Scott) Taylor of Mechanicsburg, and Emily (Tyler) Taylor of New Bloomfield; and a sister, Kay Rice of Elliottsburg.  In addition to her parents, Ruby is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 60 years, Boyd W. Kitner; and three brothers:  Thomas Lyons, Neil Lyons and Paul “Ed” Lyons.

Prior to starting her family, Ruby worked as Typist for the PA Department of Highways (now known as PennDOT) in Harrisburg and then a waitress in New Bloomfield, where she met Boyd.  After the children were in school, Ruby worked in the cafeteria at Carroll Elementary School.  In addition to running a household and raising a family, she was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Elliottsburg.

Ruby took great pride working on her flower beds which were admired by passersby on Route 34.  She enjoyed working on difficult jigsaw puzzles, watching Westerns, watching football and baseball games, and taking care of her many pet birds throughout the years.  Even though growing up as a country farm girl, Ruby loved her seafood and the beach.

Funeral services for Ruby will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, Elliottsburg on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at 11:30 AM, with Pastor Eric Petty officiating.  There will be a viewing from 10 to 11:30 AM prior to the funeral service at the church.  Interment will follow the funeral service in Bloomfield Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made in Ruby’s name to Messiah Lutheran Church, PO Box 34, Elliottsburg, PA  17024
