Ronald S. Zendt, age 83 of Loysville, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on May 8, 2023. Born in Doyles Mills on October 24, 1939 to the late Shelly and Edna (Casner) Zendt of Juniata County, Ron loved hunting and turkey calling. He is survived by three children: Edward (Kathy) Zendt, Daniel (Jodi) Zendt, and Corinna (Brad) Riggs, all of Loysville; five grandchildren: Jarret (Kayla) Zendt, Kenneth (Afton) Zendt, Josie (Aaron) Morey, Devin Riggs, and Derek (Chianne) Riggs; six great grandchildren: Kennedy, Madison, Edward “EJ”, Riley, Stella, and Lucas; and two siblings: Audrey Kerr of Millerstown and Larry (Betty) Zendt of Dauphin. In addition to his parents, Ron is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Louise (Manley) Zendt, who died in 2019.
Ron graduated with the Class of 1957 of Blain Union High School. He married the love of his life, Louise, in 1960 and in 1963 began his 30 year career with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of General Services, where he was the Supervisor of the Blue Print Room. He retired in 1993. He was a member of Adams Lodge #319 in New Bloomfield, National Rifle Association, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1299 in Carlisle.
In his free time, Ron enjoyed going out for breakfast and solving the world’s problems with his friends and family. Ron’s friends and hunting buddies were so much more than “just Ron’s friends”. Ron’s children proudly called them “family”. These folks visited Ron and brightened his days when he could no longer get out to join them for breakfast! Ron only missed one holiday dinner (this past Easter) with his siblings in his 83 years on this earth. Family and fellowship were his high priorities.
The funeral services for Ron will be held on Friday, May 12 in the calming chapel of Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home in Loysville. The visitation will be held from 10 to 11 AM. There will be a short Masonic Service at 11 AM, followed immediately by the funeral service, officiated by Aaron Morey. Interment will follow the funeral service in Restland Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to: Homeland Hospice, 2300 Vartan Way #270, Harrisburg, PA 17110
