Robert Ziegler Obituary

Robert “Bob” Ziegler, formerly of Loysville, died on December 16, 2020.  He was born on February 15, 1929 to the late Levi and Alberta (Banger) Ziegler.  He is survived by his two children:  Susan (Alan) Hench of Loysville and Timothy (Mary Elizabeth) Ziegler of Mt. Gretna.  In addition to his children, Bob is survived by six grandchildren, listed with the great grandchildren:  Katy (Kristopher) Snider with Krosby and Kolson of Winfield, WV, Emily (Andrew) Yuhaniak with Amelia and Ethan of Pittsburgh, Andrew (Lauryn) Hench of Camp Hill, Matthew (Mariel) Ziegler with Olivia of Hatfield, Robert (Genevieve) Ziegler of Harrisburg, and Zachary (Laura) Ziegler of Harrisburg.  Bob is also survived by a brother and sister:  David (Eleanor) Ziegler of Canonsburg and Gladys (Charles) Caldwell of Boston, MA.  In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his lovely bride, Nancy Marie (Bucher) Ziegler, and a sister, Elsie Earhart.

Bob graduated in the class of 1946 of Trappe High School in Collegeville and continued his education at Elizabethtown College.  He was also a recent member of Centre Presbyterian Church, but had grown up and spent most of his church years in the Churches of the Brethren in Elizabethtown, Hershey and finally Mechanicsburg. He was always active in church, teaching Sunday school, leading Bible studies, singing in the church choirs, and providing leadership in many ways.

He had a varied work life. Bob started out as a carpenter, then remodeled and built homes, acting as the general contractor until he purchased two nursing homes in 1972. He retired from his company, Newton Care Properties, in 1985 where he was both a nursing home owner and Administrator.

Bob enjoyed hard work, travel, playing golf and tennis, jigsaw puzzles, reading, and sending cards with faith-based encouragements. He was loved by many and will always be remembered as a caring, gentle man of God. He was happiest being around family and friends and most importantly, his grandchildren and great grandchildren who were his pride and joy.

Services are being held privately at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to Centre Presbyterian Church, 3912 Freeman Hollow Rd, Loysville, PA 17047, or Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren, 301 Gale St, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
