Robert "Bob" Floyd Vaughn, 82, of Shermans Dale, passed away at home surrounded by family, on December 19, 2024, just a few weeks after being diagnosed with blood cancer. Born on October 2, 1942, to the late Floyd H. and Ruth (Parkison) Vaughn of Shermans Dale, Bob is survived by his devoted wife Sarah. Also left behind are two daughters: Beverly Dotomain of Wasilla, AK and Brenda Hastie of Anchorage, AK; four grandchildren: Kala Bacher (Jon), Tyler Hastie (Bethany) and Braedon Dotomain, all of Wasilla, AK and Sara Hastie of Anchorage, AK; ten great grandchildren: Everly, Nathan, Isaac, Jordyn, Jaxxon, Jacen, Tyler, Tessa, Tegan, and Taylor; and two sisters: Mary Ann Owen (Richard) of Marysville and Virginia Shope (Andy) of Shermans Dale.
Bob graduated with the 1960 Class of Perry Joint High School. Soon after, he joined the U.S. Air National Guard and then continued his education at Stromberg Carlson Technical Training Center. Employed by United Telephone Company as a switch board installer, he took every opportunity throughout his career to attend technical schools to further develop his skills.
In the late 1960s, he and two other adventurous young men quit their jobs and set out to drive across the country. When they reached Alaska, Bob fell in love with its beauty and the people. Deciding to stay, he was hired by the Anchorage Telephone Utility, where he would meet his future wife, Sarah. For the next twenty years, in addition to them both working full time at ATU, they started and ran several successful businesses, before retiring early and making the move back to Bob's hometown, Shermans Dale.
Bob was a world traveler, avid wild game hunter, gun enthusiast, hand loader, and a big non-fiction book collector and reader. In the summer, he enjoyed competing in 1,000-yard target shoots at a range near his vacation home in Williamsport. He attended Dellville United Methodist Church in Duncannon and was always looking forward to participating in lively Bible studies. He often said that a happy, well-lived life included plenty of time spent with family. He loved to talk, was interested in everyone he met, liked to ask non-stop questions, and injected his humor into all those conversations. His favorite topics included: religion, politics, current world affairs, ballistics, and genealogy. In his final days, he told his granddaughter Kala that he wanted to be remembered on his headstone simply as a Christian.
Inurnment will be privately held at Youngs Church cemetery in Shermans Dale at the convenience of the family.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc.
