Robert A. Griffiths, better known as “Fuzz,” age 76 of Mechanicsburg, died unexpectedly, surrounded by his loving family on April 27, 2026. On March 16th, 1950, at Seidle Memorial Hospital, William and Mildred Griffiths welcomed Robert into their growing family. Fuzz is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lori (Sanderson) Griffiths; two children: Taylor A. Eisenberger (Derek “Bub”) of Mechanicsburg and Rafe S. Sanderson (Jessica) of Landisburg; six grandchildren: Quinn, Macie, Luke, Elsie, Alden, and RuthAnn; and three siblings: Edith Bower of Mechanicsburg, Ruth “Cookie” Griffiths of Dillsburg, Thomas Griffiths (Donna) of Carlisle, and in-laws Charlotte Griffiths (William) and Lindi Rae Griffiths (Eugene). In addition to his parents, Fuzz is preceded in death by his three siblings: Mary Ann Moyer, William Griffiths, and Eugene “Bean” Griffiths.
Growing up in Mechanicsburg, Fuzz wrestled for and graduated from Cumberland Valley High School, Class of 1968. After graduation, he proudly served his country as a United States Marine, where he earned the following decorations, medals, badges, commendations, and campaign ribbons: National Defense Medal – a U.S. military award authorized for honorable active service during the Vietnam War; Combat Action Ribbon – a prestigious U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard award for personnel (captain/colonel and below) who satisfactorily performed under enemy fire while actively participating in ground or surface combat; Vietnam Service Medal with 1 star – signifies participation in one of 17 designated campaigns during the Vietnam War; Vietnam Campaign Medal with device – awarded to U.S. and allied military personnel for support of operations in Vietnam; and Marksmanship Badge M-14 – indicated proficiency with the M14 rifle. Following his service, he attended Harrisburg Area Community College, where he earned his Associate's degree in Graphic Arts and later had his illustrations published in various books.
Fuzz was a dedicated maintenance worker at the West Shore Farmers Market, where he treated everyone like family. In addition, he worked for the Grace United Methodist Church as their groundskeeper/sexton for 27 years. Not willing to sit still, he also faithfully and proudly cared for the Lincoln Cemetery in Mechanicsburg for many years. Before this, he was a grounds crew member known as the “right-hand man” at several golf courses, office manager at DC Walls Auto Transport, and even an Upper Allen Township policeman. He was a proud member of the Vietnam Veterans of Mechanicsburg and devoted his time to representing veterans in Mechanicsburg parades.
These highlights don’t fully capture the man we knew as Fuzz; his fun, quirky, outgoing personality did! To anyone who got to know him, they quickly discovered he was truly one of a kind. They also discovered that he was selfless, compassionate, and generous. He loved riding the waves at the beach, making dribble castles, and spending time on the boardwalk. He loved dogs, gardening, being creative, the Flyers, cars, antiques, music, and westerns. But at the end of the day, the people he loved mattered most. And for that, we are grateful to have known him!
A celebration of Fuzz’s life will be held at the West Shore Farmers Market (upstairs) on Saturday, May 23rd, at 3:00 PM. The street address is 900 Market Street, Lemoyne, PA 17043. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Vietnam Veterans of Mechanicsburg, 440 S. York St., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
