Rick Smiley, age 54, departed this Earth on June 19, 2020 at the Hershey Medical Center. Born on July 23, 1965 to John and Mary Lou (Turnbaugh) Smiley of Shermans Dale, he was a devoted son, brother, and uncle. Rick loved cars and turned his passion into a career. He was an Assistant Manager at NAPA in Harrisburg, and dabbled in a side business named Smiley’s Detail.
Rick loved his community. He served as both a West Perry School Board member and Centre Township Planning Committee member. He drove a school bus for 25 years, and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Mark Smiley and wife Diane of Shermans Dale, three nieces: Kayla Hatt of Syracuse, NY, Morgan Hatt of New Germantown, and Madison Hatt of Shermans Dale, and a great-niece Kazlynn Hatt-Roberts of Syracuse, NY. Rick leaves behind both a canine and feline companion: Nitro and Dilly, respectively.
A public viewing will be held Wednesday, June 24 from 10 am to noon in the newly renovated chapel at Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc. Following the viewing, a public funeral service will commence. These services will follow the COVID parameters of social distancing with masks recommended, but not required. Interment will follow the service at Youngs Church Cemetery in Shermans Dale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Rick’s name to The American Heart Association, 300 Fifth Avenue, Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451.
