Richard Gutshall Obituary

Richard L. Gutshall, 75 of Mechanicsburg, passed away at home on June 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.  Formerly of Loysville, Richard was also known as “Premo” and “Dick”.  Dick was born in Carlisle on February 6, 1949 to the late Kermit L. and Helen (Stum) Gutshall of Loysville.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Carol S. (Harless) Gutshall; two stepdaughters:  Heather S. Brookmyer (Bryon) of Mechanicsburg and Jennifer L. Hardie (Derek) of Shiremanstown; three step grandchildren:  Emily, Ian, and Luci; three siblings:  Karen Tucker (Paul) of Los Angeles, CA, Gwen McCartney (Ken) of Allentown, and Larry Gutshall of Loysville; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews..

Dick graduated with the West Perry High School of 1968 and proudly served his country as a US Marine from 1968 to 1970.  He was a member of Tressler Memorial Free Lutheran Church in Loysville.  He was also a 32nd degree Mason at Harrisburg-Snyder Lodge #629 and belonged to Harrisburg Consistory.  In 2006, he retired from Norfolk Southern as a locomotive engineer, after starting his career with Conrail.  He loved being a railroader, uncle, and great uncle, but most of all he loved being a Pappy to his three grandchildren!

Graveside services with military honors for Dick will be held at 10 AM on July 1, 2024 at Restland Cemetery.  Per the deceased’s request, there will be no viewing.  Funeral procession will line up at 9:15 AM at Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc. of Loysville for a prompt 9:30 dismissal.  A small luncheon at Tressler Memorial Free Lutheran Church will follow the service.  In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation in Dick’s name to the American Lung Association online at https://action.lung.org/site/Donation2?df_id=31271&mfc_pref=T&31271.donation=form1
