Richard L. Ernest

Richard L. Ernest, age 74 of Ickesburg, peacefully passed away in Enola on December 15, 2023.  Born at home on July 23, 1949 to the late Karl M. and Adele L. (Peck) Ernest of Ickesburg, Dick is survived by two daughters:  Erica (Joe) Horvath of Dover, PA and Heather (Virgil) Cataldi of Loysville; four grandchildren:  Brigitte (AJ) Shanholtz of Carlisle, Brady (Anna) McNaughton of Cheyenne, WY, Nolan, and Daphne; and his brother, David (Helen) Ernest of Ickesburg.  Dick will also be deeply missed by his companion, Donna O’Shell of Enola.  In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Doris E. (Wagner) Ernest.

Dick graduated with the West Perry High School Class of 1967, and later continued his education to earn his Civil Engineering license from Penn State.  He worked as a professional land surveyor for many, many years.  He was the code enforcement officer for East Pennsboro Township and an engineer for NAVTech, Inc. of New Bloomfield.  In his free time, Dick enjoyed being outdoors – hunting deer and turkey.  Following his passion, he was a member of both the Enola Sportsmen’s Association and Blain Sportsman’s Club.  Dick was described by his family as “the smartest guy I know.”, so proud of his grandchildren; a stubborn, but generous, man who saw the best in people.  He was reliable, dependable, and optimistic.  What a wonderful legacy!

A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Wednesday, December 20 from 3 to 7 PM in the calming chapel of Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc. in Loysville.  This will be a time to view and visit with Dick’s family and friends.
