Ray “Sonny” S. Garlin, age 86, joined his Heavenly Father on March 20, 2024. Born in Carlisle on November 5, 1937 to the late Clarence and Esther (Henry) Garlin, Ray is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Catherine R. (Borrell) Garlin, who died in 2020. He is survived by two children: Clarence R. Garlin (Tammy) of Carlisle and Ruth E. Dinter (David) of Harrisburg; three grandchildren: Lakin M Leas (Eric) of Harrisburg, Rebecca A. Dinter of Harrisburg, and Ashley; one favorite great granddaughter, Parker; and two sisters: Kay Snyder (Paul) of Loysville and Fay Header (James) of Duncannon. Ray was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Ray graduated with the 1956 Class of Green Park Union and was a member of the Kennedy Valley Church of God in Landisburg. In his young years, Ray was a sheriff in Carlisle, worked as a security guard at Williams Grove, and fire police with Landisburg Fire Department. He retired as a shop foreman (and mechanic) in 1999 from Rufe Chevrolet car dealership, after 42 years of service. In his rare free time, Ray enjoyed deer hunting and sprint car racing.
The viewing for Ray will be held in the calming chapel of Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home in Loysville on Monday, March 25 from 10 to 11 AM. The funeral service will immediately follow the viewing, at 11 AM, with Pastor Dennis Bailey officiating. The interment will follow the funeral service at Landisburg Cemetery.
