Ray E. Delp, 69 of Carlisle, passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 7, 2026. Born in Carlisle on August 12, 1956, to the late Russell L. Sweger, Jr. of Landisburg and Alma C. (Swinn) Smiley of Shermans Dale, Ray is survived by two children: Ray E. Delp, Jr. of New York and Shannon R. Palmer of Potter County; ten siblings: Russell E. Sweger of Loysville, Debbie Thomas of Bear, DE, Barbara Gaydos of Brunswick, GA, Donna Chambers of Mexia, TX, Brenda Sweger Fry of Loysville, Luther Sweger of Landisburg, Juanita E. Gassiot of Millerstown, LorrieAnn Melius of Everett, Richard L. Ritter, Jr. of Landisburg, and Tina M. Kauffman of Loysville; three grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Melissa J. Sweger.
He attended West Perry High School. Raised in Perry County, Ray was proud of his “country” roots and often wished to move back “home” after he retired. He was a long-time employee of DHL, Inc. of Carlisle. He enjoyed family history and loved visiting places where his ancestors lived and were buried.
Ray was a giver. He enjoyed going to thrift stores and finding treasures to share. You could not spend time with him without him giving you some small thing. He would often hand out 50-cent pieces or $2 bills at family holiday gatherings, especially to the children.
Memorial services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
