Naomi Womer Obituary

Naomi C. (Wertz) Womer, a force of nature known for her sharp wit, fierce love, and unyielding spirit, was embraced in her Heavenly Father’s arms on April 21, 2026, at the age of 92.  She was a devoted wife and mother, proud grandmother and great grandmother, a cherished sister and aunt, and a dear friend to many. A fiery matriarch, she dedicated her life to her family with boundless generosity, living life entirely on her own terms until the very end.

She was born in Mechanicsburg on February 24, 1934, to the late George J. and Fay C. (Weary) Wertz, Sr.  She is survived by her devoted husband of 73 years, Gene A. Womer; two children:  Holly Keller (Steven) of Newville and Craig Womer (Cindy) of Landisburg; 11 grandchildren:  Sherry Keller of Miami, FL, Leslie Keller of Newville, Stephanie Martin (Joe) of Carlisle, James Keller of Carlisle, Robyn Womer (Daniel) of Houtzdale, Stacey Womer (Joshua) of New Bloomfield, Justin Womer (Kirsten) of Landisburg, Christopher Womer (Meredith) of Landisburg, Michael  Womer (Chevy) of Marysville, Shania Merovich (Dustin) of Dillsburg and Katelyn Womer of New Bloomfield; and 16 great grandchildren.

Naomi was the last surviving sibling of the four Wertz children – George, Merle, and Ruth.  She was raised on the family farm in Mechanicsburg alongside her brothers and sister where she learned the values of resilience, hard work, and perseverance.  Naomi graduated with the Class of 1951 of Mechanicsburg High School and then went to Winchester, Virginia and eloped with the love of her life at just 18 years old.  They were married on June 24, 1952 before Gene was shipped out with the U.S. Navy.  Naomi began her career with the dress factory in Carlisle – where she sewed pajamas.  She then worked as the manager for Hair Brothers Hardware in New Bloomfield.  Her longest, most favorite, and final job was team truck driving with her husband.  She drove for Carlisle Carrier Corp of Mechanicsburg, Spartan, and Smith Transfer of Carlisle. Gene and Naomi built a beautiful life together, eventually settling in Perry County to raise their children.

Naomi lived her life grounded in faith.  She never met a stranger and rarely kept her opinion to herself.  Her strength and independence left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She leaves behind a legacy of strength and unconditional love.

Family was everything to Naomi.  She always made sure her family was taken care of, a pillar of strength, stubbornness, and sass that was wrapped in love.  She treasured time spent together at family picnics, whether it was at Fowler’s Hollow, Colonel Denning, or her own backyard.  She found joy in simple moments, especially tending to her garden and backyard filled with flowers, trees, and birds.

She was talented with her hands and loved crocheting blankets for her children and grandchildren, each one a lasting symbol of her care.  You could always find mint tea leaves laying out drying, a preparation step for the pitcher of mint tea that could always be found in her refrigerator.

She will be deeply missed, but the love she gave and memories she created will live on in all who knew her.

Funeral services for Naomi will be held in the calming chapel of Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home on Saturday, May 2, 2026.  The closed casket visitation will be held from 9 to 10 AM, followed by the funeral service at 10 AM.  Interment will immediately follow the funeral service at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Landisburg.  It was Naomi’s request that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Appalachian Audubon Society (https://donorbox.org/donate-to-appalachian-audubon-society) to support her beloved birds.
