Maryann M (Marshall) Smith

Maryann (Marshall) Smith, known by some as “Irish Rose”, age 84 of Ickesburg, entered into eternal peace on February 18, 2023.  Born on December 9, 1938 in Crisfield, MD to the late Allan and Marzella (Fye) Marshall, Maryann is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Paul D. Smith, three children:  Gail (Mack) Hockley of Gardners, David (Kellie) Smith of Saville, and Edward (Carol) Smith of Ickesburg; five grandchildren:  Jay (Patty) Snyder, Joy (Mike) Mitchell, Eric (Lauren) Hockley, Natasha (Jeremy) Milliken, and Kristie (Dale) Smith; three great grandchildren:  Shayne (Brian) Snyder, Daulton (Leah) Snyder and Nikita; ad seven great great grandchildren:  Maliyah, Bryson, Gabriel, Kaylee, Lane, AJ, and Callahan; brother, Rick Fleming of Mexico; and nephew Derick Garmen. 

Prior to Maryann’s retirement, she worked in clerical positions for the PA Department of Transportation and the Perry County Prothonotary Office, as well as a retail assistant at Kings Department Store in the jewelry department.  In addition to raising a family and running a household, Maryann was an active member of Faith United Church in Ickesburg.  In her limited spare time she selflessly volunteered as a 4-H leader and a member of the Ickesburg Ladies Auxiliary.  She also served through all the chairs of the Moose Post # 925 of Millerstown. 

Maryann was a homemaker for most of her life and enjoyed sharing her love of cooking and baking with her family. She looked forward to family holiday gatherings. Some of her favorite family memories took place on beach vacations in DE and MD.  Maryann and Paul also enjoyed traveling in their RV camper, taking trips within the United States and venturing to Alaska, along with a few fun cruises, and spending several winter seasons in Florida. She was also a talented seamstress and enjoyed painting and making crafts.

The memorial service will be held at Faith United Church in Ickesburg, with the Rev. Elaine Moyer officiating on Sunday, March 12 at 2 PM.  The Gathering of Friends and Family will be held at church from 1 - 2 PM.  Memorial contributions can be made in Maryann’s name to Faith United Church, PO Box 100, Ickesburg, PA  17037.
