Mary E. (Potts) Everett, 87, formerly of Newport, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025 at Cumberland Crossings with her loving daughter, Theresa, by her side. Born April 1, 1938 in Flint, MI to the late Paul E. and Theresa A. (Morgan) Potts, Mary grew up in Mt. Morris, MI and attended school at St. Mary’s, where she excelled academically.
Mary proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960. While stationed at Stewart Air Force Base, she met her husband, LeRoy Everett. After leaving the military and getting married, she and LeRoy moved to his hometown of Palmerton. They had three children while living in Palmerton, before moving to Newport for LeRoy’s job with the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
She was a 50+ year member of St Bernard Catholic Church in New Bloomfield, where she served as director of the CCD program, was a member of the Women’s Committee, Bible Study, and the Latin Choir, and served as a lector. She enjoyed bird watching, reading, baking, and above all else -- spending time with family.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, LeRoy L. Everett, her parents, and her younger brother, Paul J. Potts. She is survived by her son, Christopher W. Everett of Harrisburg, daughter, Theresa and husband David Leiby of Loysville, and daughter, Margaret and husband David Crosby of Great Falls, VA; three grandchildren: Joshua (Nicole) Leiby of Landisburg, Rebecca Leiby of Carlisle, and Abigail Leiby of Loysville; two brothers: Michael A. Potts of Exeter, CA and Andrew M. (Laura) Potts of West End, NC; two sisters-in-law: Barbara Hamm of DeWitt, MI and Donna Horn of Palmerton; and many nieces, and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 1 PM at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 811 Shermans Valley Road, New Bloomfield, PA with Father Robert F. Sharman as celebrant. Interment will follow the Mass in Bloomfield Cemetery, New Bloomfield. A visitation will be held on Friday preceding Mass, from 12 to 1 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Bernard Catholic Church, 811 Shermans Valley Road, New Bloomfield, PA 17068.
