Lawrence H. Ehlman, 80 of Loysville, passed away on January 30, 2025, at West Shore UPMC Emergency Room. Known fondly as “Butch” to most folks, he was born at home on December 11, 1944, to the late Jesse L. and Ruth H. (Messimer) Ehlman of Ickesburg. Butch is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Sandra K. (Basore) Bell Ehlman; his daughter: Nicole van Schilt (Max) of Lewisberry; three stepchildren: Sherman Bell (Elizabeth) of Hummelstown, Jessica Cobaugh (Mike Mulhearn) of St. Leonard, MD, and Andrew Bell (Brandi) of Middletown; grandchildren: Levi, Quinton, Jax, Samantha, Sarah, Ulysses Sherman, Silvia, April, Zoe, Dayton, Dylan, Alivia, Ava,Colson, Josie and Travis; and his sister, Ruthanna Olenowski (Dennis) of Chambers Hill. In addition to his parents, Butch is preceded in death by his sister, Helen Lindsay of Plainfield.
Butch graduated with the Blain Union Class of 1963. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967, where he achieved the rank of SP4 for his work on helicopter engines during the Vietnam War. Upon his return to civilian life, Butch worked at J&R Ford Tractor in Mechanicsburg, and then for Lemoyne Borough, from which he retired in 2010 after almost 20 years of service. He worked in the Maintenance Department for the Lemoyne Borough and could fix almost anything. He had a great work ethic and he liked gardening and mowing grass.
A Celebration of Life for Butch will be held on Friday, February 7 at 5 PM in the calming chapel of Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc., with Pastor Rafe Sanderson of New Life Assembly of God church officiating. There will be a Gathering of Friends and Family from 4 to 5 PM. Inurnment will be private at Fort Indiantown Gap.
