Larry E. Moose, age 83 of Blain, departed this Earth surrounded by his loving family on May 3, 2026. Born at home April 22, 1943, to the late William S. and Grace E. (Shuman) Moose of Loysville, Larry – known to most as “Moosie” – is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Kathy L. (Gutshall) Moose; two children: Chad C. Mitten (Katrina) and Jamie D. Moose (Jerry) – both of Blain; and his sister, Donna J. Myers of Newville. In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his siblings: Mary E. Nace and William S. Moose. He was a devoted husband, father, and brother.
Larry graduated with the Class of 1961 from Blain Union High School. He had the gift of working with his hands to fix mechanical things. He worked as a machine operator for Kinney Shoes for 35 years, until it closed its operations in Carlisle. He then became a mechanic for John’s Mobile Repair Services in Carlisle, from which he retired in 2005.
Larry was a Lifetime Member of Blain Fire Company, Sherman’s Valley Heritage Days, and one of the founders of the Blain Sportsman Club. He loved hunting, fishing, going to yard sales with Kate, dirt track racing and NASCAR racing. He looked forward to going fishing in Canada with the guys. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and friends at the cabin, hunting from his “Taj Mahal” and being in his garage tinkering. There wasn’t a motor he couldn’t fix or advise someone how to fix it. In earlier years, Larry was involved in dirt track racing as head mechanic of a pit crew, and you could find him at multiple tracks throughout the week. Larry was a regular with the “coffee gang” at the Blain Hotel or Blain Market daily. Larry enjoyed driving his friends and family to and from work daily in the latter years.
It was Larry’s wish to not have memorial services. The family will schedule a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Larry’s name to Sherman’s Valley Heritage Days (PO Box 115, Blain, PA 17006), Blain Sportsman Club (PO Box 21, Blain, PA 17006), and/or the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/donate/memorial-giving.html )
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc.
