Kenneth E. Shumaker, 69 of Landisburg passed away unexpectedly in his home on September 20, 2024. Ken was born on May 29, 1955, in Mechanicsburg to the late Warren R. and Betty G. (Kauffman) Shumaker. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Darlene K. (Kennedy) Shumaker; two children: Amy J. Altland (Tony) of Carlisle and Jason E. Shumaker (Tiffany) of Landisburg; four grandchildren: Kendra, Tyler, Clayton, and Sara; four great grandchildren: Macie, Adlee, Willow and Kinsley; and two brothers: Ronald and David Shumaker. In addition to his parents, Ken is preceded in death by a brother, Edward L., a sister, Mary J. Clouser and a great granddaughter, Kylie Jo Parson who died in 2021.
Ken graduated with the 1973 Class of West Perry High School. He began his career working in Maintenance for Frog and Switch Manufacturing, from where he retired in 2020 after providing 47 years of service. Ken was a member of the Steelworkers Union and Kennedy Valley Church of God, where he served as a deacon. He was very well known as a local man who could fix anything mechanical. He repaired small engines, sharpened mower blades, and welded farm machinery as needed.
Ken was known to bestow the gift of laughter to those around him. If he liked you, he picked on you. He coached and umpired little league baseball. He loved family gatherings, camping, and was absolutely besotted with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nothing fixed a crisis like a double-meat ham and cheese sub sandwich from Zeiderelli’s or a motorcycle ride. Ken was simply one of those great guys!
