Kay L. (Lyons) Rice, age 84 of Elliottsburg, was gathered into the arms of Jesus on January 25, 2024. Kay was born at home on June 20, 1939 to the late D. Ray and Pauline A. (Junkins) Lyons of Loysville. She is survived by three children: Polly (Gary) Thomas of New Bloomfield, Kelly Rice of Carlisle, and Erica (Michael) Maxwell of Keedysville, MD; and three grandchildren: Alana Thomas of Germantown, MD, Connor Thomas of Steamboat Springs, CO, and Addison Thomas of York. In addition to her parents, Kay is preceded in death by her beloved husband of many years, Richard L. Rice; and all four of her siblings: Thomas B. Lyons, Ruby I. Kitner, Neil E. Lyons and P. Edward Lyons. Kay’s first priority was always her family, and she will be greatly missed by them.
Kay graduated with the Class of 1957 of Perry Joint High School. For a short period of time, she worked for United Telephone Company at New Bloomfield as a switchboard operator. The job that she was proudest of was that of wife, mother, and grandmother. She was also a member of the New Hope United Church of Christ in Landisburg. In her free time, Kay enjoyed cake decorating, drawing, painting, bird watching, and spending time with her family and cats.
An open house style of Gathering of Friends and Family will be held on Thursday, February 1 in the calming chapel of Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc. in Loysville from 4 to 7 PM. Inurnment will be private at Bloomfield Cemetery.
