Karen F. (Mahler) Thomas, age 70 of Elliottsburg, gained her angel wings on June 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Fondly known as “Kit”, Karen resided for many years in Delaware County. Born in Chester on December 7, 1953, to the late Nicholas M. and Francis M. (Ronan) Mahler, Karen is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Allan S. Thomas. In addition to her husband, Karen is survived by two children: Sadie Thomas of Darby Township and Jennifer Thomas of Elliottsburg; eight grandchildren: John Kasparian (Star) of Norfolk, VA, Joseph DeMarco, Destiny DeMarco, and Leslie Orr, all three of Elliottsburg, Dominic Roche of Paris Island, Liam, Elizabeth, and Logan; one great grandson, Alexander; and Karen’s sister, Elaine Williams (Paul) of Woodlyn.
Karen graduated with the Class of 1971 of Ridley Township High School. In addition to raising an active family and running a household, Karen worked for Skypack, TNT, and finally USBanknote as a receptionist. She was a member of “Bird Nuts”, a parrot rescue, which sadly no longer exists. Karen was described by those who knew her well as a funny, independent thinking, empathetic, smart lady. She was a true friend.
Karen did not want a traditional sad funeral service. She truly wanted a Celebration of Her Life! Her services will be held on Saturday, June 29 at Miseno’s Ristro Pub II, 598 W. High St, Carlisle, PA 17013. The Gathering of Friends and Family will be from 1 to 2 PM. The Celebration of Life Service will begin promptly at 2 PM, with Chaplain Dorothy O’Melia officiating. There will be a pay-your-own-way meal following the Celebration of Life. Karen stated that she wants NO CUT FLOWERS. Instead, she requested donations be made to Perry County Animal Rescue, Inc. 379 Sugar Run Road, Millerstown, PA 17062.
Arrangements entrusted to Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc.
