James Leonard Jones, Sr. passed away at his home, surrounded by his cherished family, on April 29, 2024. Born on December 18, 1939, in Wheatfield Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania, James was a beloved husband, devoted father, adored Pappy, and loyal friend to many.

James was a man of integrity and dedication, traits that were evident throughout his remarkable life. He graduated from Perry Joint High School in 1958, laying the foundation for a life filled with purpose and achievement. Following his graduation, James proudly served his country as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps for eight years, from 1955 to 1963, exemplifying courage and honor in his service.

Beyond his military service, James was also a proud member of the United Steel Workers of America, embodying the values of hard work and solidarity throughout his career.

Throughout his professional life, James found fulfillment in various roles, including crane operator for McMinn’s, heavy equipment construction worker for Blue Mountain Construction and Nissley, and H.J. Williams. His passion for farming and gardening was unparalleled, and he made history as the first autograder operator in Pennsylvania, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.

In 1960, James married the love of his life, Shirley A. Richwine, and together they shared 64 years of unwavering love and devotion. Their bond was a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew them, a testament to the power of enduring love.

James leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to live on through his beloved family. He is survived by his children, James L. Jones, Jr. (Diana), Laurie A. Mohler (Gary), Julie A. Egolf (Patrick), and Tina M. Jones (partner Frank McGarvey), who will forever cherish his memory.

James was a devoted Pappy to his grandchildren, Benjamin (Charity), Michael, Keith (Garin), Brandi (Braun), Andrew (Kylie), Ian, Noah (Kira), and great-grandchildren, Max, Chloe, Davina, Waylon, Morgan, Fawn, Cash, Kimber, Cooper, and Braelynn.

James is also survived by his brother, Richard Jones (Tammy), and sisters, Patsy (late husband Gary), and Ruth, who will continue to honor his legacy with love and fond memories. James was preceded in death by a brother and several sisters.

James Leonard Jones, Sr. will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His strength, wit, and unwavering spirit will forever be remembered, guiding us as we navigate life’s journey without him.  May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his love will live on in the hearts of those who loved him dearly.

Funeral services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Young's Church of 101 Youngs Church Road, Shermans Dale, PA  17090, in honor of James wife Shirley’s lifelong commitment to her faith community.
