James W. “Bill” Hardy, age 78 of Loysville passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Born at home on December 13, 1946, to the late Clair G. and Edna B. (Rowles) Hardy of East Waterford, Jim is survived by his beautiful wife and soulmate of 58 wonderful years, Nancy Lee (Bubb) Hardy; four children: James W. Hardy, Jr. (Darla) of Muncy, Vickie L. Wentz (Michael) of Shermans Dale, Christina M. Hardy of New Bloomfield, and Dennis J. Hardy (Karen) of Elliottsburg; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and five siblings: Jane Heikes (Delbert) of Cogan Station, Ann Auker (Joe) of McClure, Wilma Shuey (Jim) of Centre Hall, Donna Vawn of East Waterford, and Donald Hardy of Blairs Mills. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by four siblings: Clair Hardy of East Waterford, Bernice Dills of State College, Jackie Hardy, and Kay Mundy of Linden.
Jim graduated from Juniata Joint High School – Class of 1964. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970, during the period of the Vietnam War, as a Radio Repairman and earned both the National Defense Service Medal and Expert rating on Rifle M-14. During his career, Jim worked for United Telephone, American Viscoe, and Fisher Electronics. He retired in 2003 from the United States Postal Service as a Maintenance Mechanic after 30 years of service. In addition, he was the owner of Hardy's Building Supply and Mower Repair.
Jim was a dedicated member of New Hope United Church of Christ in Landisburg, where he served both on the Consistory and as a Deacon. Jim was a man of faith and service! He was a member of Zembo Temple (as a 32nd degree member) Perry-Juniata Shriners Club, Adams Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Tall Cedars, Landisburg Lions Club with 40 years of service, Madison Grange, and a prior Cub/Boy Scout Leader. He received the Service Award from Perry County Pomona Grange #69 and the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Award from Lions Clubs International, which is the highest recognition offered by Lions Clubs International and is awarded to individuals who demonstrate exceptional service and embody the humanitarian ideals of Lionism. It is a way to honor those who actively support Lions Clubs International Foundation global humanitarian efforts.
Funeral services for Jim are Thursday, June 19, 2025, at New Hope United Church of Christ, 108 S. Carlisle Street, Landisburg, PA 17040. The visitation will be held from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. There will be a Masonic Service at 1:20 PM, followed by the funeral service at 1:30, with Rev. Joshua Craley officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service at Restland Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to New Hope United Church of Christ, PO Box 343, Landisburg, PA 17040.
