Gladys L. (Sheibley) Bower McCracken, age 104, passed away peacefully in her own home in Landisburg on June 21, 2024. Gladys was the daughter of Charles and Alice (Yocum) Sheibley. She was born on March 27, 1920, at her parent’s home in Perry County.
Gladys worked at the dress factory in Carlisle, as well as the Warm Springs Lodge in Landisburg. She was a devoted homemaker who had a green thumb. Her yard and garden were always kept in pristine condition. Gladys enjoyed cooking, baking, and particularly preparing family meals. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Gladys thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family and in her later years, loved taking pictures with her granddaughters especially when Snap Chat filters were involved.
Gladys is survived by one son, Andrew and his wife Cindy (Kistler) of Shermans Dale and was preceded in death by three children, Barb Neff, Gloria White, and Milt Bower. In addition to her parents and children, Gladys was also preceded in death by her husbands - Milton Bower and Charlie McCracken, two brothers, three sisters and a grandson. Gladys was a grandmother to nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
The family will be holding a private ceremony at a later date.
