Gertie Dobbs Obituary

Gertie I. (Murphy) Dobbs, 95 years young of Duncannon, joined her Heavenly Father on March 6, 2025.  Formerly of New Bloomfield, Gertie was born in McCoysville (Juniata County) on January 6, 1930, to the late Joseph Andrew and Catherine Jane (Henry) Murphy.  In addition to her parents, Gertie is preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 53 years, Dale E. Dobbs, who died in 2000; son, Dale Wayne Dobbs, who died in 2013; granddaughter, Lesley Dobbs Ramos, who died in 2016; son-in-law, John Weibley, who died in 2012; and nine siblings:  Brooks, Harry, Celeste, Stella, Glenn, Ralph, Harold, John, and Roy.

Gertie was a hard worker and prioritized her family first.  Her surviving family will miss her dearly.  She is survived by her four children:  Robert E. Dobbs (Karen) and Gary J. Dobbs (Karen) – both of Newport, David G. Dobbs (Pamela) of New Bloomfield, and Beth Weibley of North Carolina; seven grandchildren: Jayme (David), Lauren (John), Mike (Jill), Garret (Maggie), Kelly, Deron (Sarah), and Drew (Rachael); step-grandson:  Greg (Laura); twelve great-grandchildren: Tarryn, Kaitlyn, Gianna, Maddie, Olivia, Josie, Ivy, Liam, Levi, Timothy, Lucy, and George; and three step-great-grandchildren: Henry, Margot, and Spencer.  She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy.

In addition to running a household and raising her family, Gertie was a member of the Mannsville Lutheran Church.  Throughout the many years of her career, Gertie cleaned homes, worked in Martha’s Kitchen and several other local restaurants, farmed and “milked cows faster than anyone”.  She retired from West Perry School District after many years of service in the cafeteria.
