George R. Simonton of Loysville died on January 16, 2021. He was 73. He was born at home on December 12, 1947 to the late Clyde and Freda (Barns) Simonton of Loysville. He lived most of his adult life in the same house in which he was born. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 51 years, Hazel (Shaffer) Simonton and his two children: Lynn Ann (Todd) Shumaker of Shermans Dale and John (Kristi) Simonton of Erin, NY. In addition to his wife and children, George is survived by two grandsons: Adam and Luke Simonton, both of NY; and a sister, Virginia (Charles) Robinson of Duncannon.
George graduated with the very first class of West Perry High School in 1965. He worked in “handyman” construction, delivered pharmaceuticals to nursing homes, prisons, and other institutions, and retired in 2010 from Susquenita School District as a janitor.
George was a proud member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting deer and small game. He was passionate about his garden, but really looked forward to gun raffles and playing the slot machines at the casino. Many seniors chatted with him as he delivered Meals on Wheels for the Senior Center.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life for George at a later (and warmer) time.
In lieu of flowers, please send a memorial contribution in George’s name to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 5593 Shermans Valley Rd, Loysville, PA 17047.
Arrangements entrusted to Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc., located in Loysville, PA.
