George A. Rohrer, Sr., age 88 of Shermans Dale, departed his Earthly home and joined his Heavenly Father on December 27, 2021. Born on February 8, 1933 in Camp Hill to the late Leroy and Irene (Snell) Rohrer, George is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Margaret (Yohe) Rohrer. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Joe (Tammy) Rohrer of Elliottsburg, Doug (Cindy) Rohrer of Landisburg, and Starr (George) Akens of Mechanicsburg; four grandchildren: Rachel (Rob) Davis of Gardners, Fred (Denae) Black, Jr. of Mechanicsburg, and Rebecca and Macenzie Rohrer, both of Elliottsburg; two great granddaughters: Lilith and Nevada Rose; and his sister, Violet Miller of Carlisle. In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his son, George Rohrer, Jr.; his grandson, Andy Black; and eight siblings: Grace Armold, Mary Tritt, Beverly Murtoff, John Rohrer, Earl Rohrer, Bob Rohrer, Dorothy Snyder and Lloyd Edward Rohrer (stillborn).
After leaving high school, George proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He retired from Iceland Seafood Corporation as a mechanic, where he worked for 25 years. He was a member of the Shermans Dale United Methodist Church, Loysville Rod and Gun Club, Shermans Dale Senior Citizen Center, and a Past Boy Scout Leader of Troop #94 of Shermans Dale. In his free time, George was passionate about fishing and hunting – especially salmon fishing in New York. He was a great outdoorsman. He raised a large garden and taught his children to hunt squirrels. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was dependable and faithful to both his family and God. His canine companion, Mandy Joy, will deeply miss him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in George's name to the Shermans Dale United Methodist Church.
The memorial service for George will be held at Shermans Dale United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 2 PM, with Pastor A. Scott Ryan officiating.
