Fred D. Rissinger of Duncannon, age 82, passed away on December 4, 2021 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Harrisburg on July 26, 1939 to the late Rev. Charles and Ardella (Stahler) Rissinger, he was a good husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Carol (Dowdrick) Rissinger; two children: Fred D. Rissinger II of Duncannon, Leah (Lee) Lepka of Halifax; and grandson, Tyler Rissinger of Millersburg. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his five brothers: Curtis, John, Marvin, Clifford and James Rissinger.
After graduating from Susquenita High School (Class of 1958), Fred proudly served his country in the US Army, where he earned the Good Conduct Medal and Marksman (Rifle M-14) Award. Upon completion of his service, Fred graduated from Goldey-Beacom School of Business, then joined the staff of the Carlisle Hospital and Health Services on Walnut Street. He retired in 1992, after 25 years of service, as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and continued working after his retirement at the Masonic Homes as Director of Development.
Fred was a member of Christ Reformed Church in Duncannon, where he held positions as Church Board President and Adult Sunday School Teacher. He was also a member of Perry Lodge #458 F.&A.M., at which he held the position of Worshipful Master in 1975, Zembo Shrine, American Legion Post 340, Duncannon Sportsmen’s Association, Life Member of the NRA, Mercedes Benz Club of America and the Grand Falcon of Turkey Buzzards.
He enjoyed taking trips with his wife, Carol. As an avid outdoorsman, Fred taught his son how to hunt and fish. Gifting his daughter with a competitive spirit, they loved watching sports together. With a passion for golf, he was always competing with his brother Clifford. Fred took pride in his home, yard, and especially his garden – from which he shared the bounty with all! He also enjoyed watching his favorite team the Boston Red Sox.
