Franklin Hoffman Obituary

Franklin R. Hoffman of New Bloomfield, age 91, was found deceased in his home on September 10, 2024.  Born at home on November 8, 1932, to the late Ellwood H. and Zella M. Burkey Hoffman of Port Trevorton, Franklin was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He is survived by his four children:  Cynthia M. Lauver (Joe) of New Bloomfield, Paul H. Hoffman (Karen) of New Cumberland, Darlene E. Clouser (Robert) and Richard E. Hoffman (Beth), both of New Bloomfield; four grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and one brother, Harvey Hoffman of Camp Hill.  In addition to his parents, Franklin is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Florence E. (Swartz) Hoffman, who died in 2023; great grandson, Gage Lauver, who died in 2021; and seven siblings:  Bertha Mullen, Charlotte Kisner, Marlin Hoffman, Elwood Hoffman, John Hoffman, Donald Hoffman, and Wayne Hoffman.

Franklin left high school to serve his country in the United States Army as a Private from 1953 to 1954.  While serving in Korea, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal.  He left the military due to injuries sustained in Korea.  Upon his return to civilian life, Franklin worked as a Body Technician for Sunderland Chevrolet in Lemoyne for 32 years before changing employers to LB Smith Ford, from which he retired in 1990.  Franklin was a member of New Hope United Church of Christ is Landisburg and maintained life membership at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7463 in New Bloomfield.  Franklin was described by his family as funny and quite the jokester, generous, outspoken, loved and protective of his family, with a strong conviction to always do “the right thing.”

Funeral services for Franklin will be held in the calming chapel of Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday, September 21.  Visitation will be from 10 Am to 12 noon.  The funeral service will begin promptly at 12 noon and Rev. Bill Pipp, pastor of Snyder’s Church in New Bloomfield, will officiate.  Interment with full military honors will follow the funeral service at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Landisburg.  In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to VFW Post #7463, 71 Soule Road, New Bloomfield, PA  17068.
