Evelyn Mary (Raubenstine) Spotts, age 88, of New Bloomfield, was called Home to be with the Lord on July 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born at home on December 9, 1936, to the late Walter S. and Mary C. (Barnhart) Raubenstine of Hanover, Evelyn is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Kelvin R. Spotts. She is also survived by her four children: Andrew Spotts (Pam) of Shippensburg, Beth Carter (Karl) of St. Charles, MO, Samuel Spotts of Shermans Dale, and Mary Thomas of Mountain Top. She leaves behind seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and 16 step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her three brothers: Harold W. Raubenstine, Gerald B. Raubenstine, and Nevin E. Raubenstine — all of Hanover.
Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She always put family first and was known for her generosity and kindness. She loved to bake, garden and tend to her flowers, attend yard sales, crochet, and play games with her grandchildren.
A 1955 graduate of Eichelberger Senior High School, Evelyn began her career as a secretary at Doubleday Publishing Company. She married the love of her life, Kelvin R. Spotts, on April 8, 1962, and together they raised four children. Alongside raising a family, Evelyn worked at the Capital Area Intermediate Unit as a secretary and cook from 1977 until her retirement in 2010 — dedicating 33 years of service.
Once she married and moved to New Bloomfield, Evelyn became very active in the community. Many will remember her as a piano teacher, music instructor at Carson Long Military Academy, a West Perry Band Booster mom and chaperone, a member of the New Bloomfield Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and a supporter of the Senior Citizen Center in New Bloomfield.
A lifelong member of St. Bartholomew’s United Church in Hanover, Evelyn served as the organist and choir member in her early years. Later, as an active and longstanding participant at Christ Lutheran Church in New Bloomfield, she was the organist for many years, helped with Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and was involved in both the choir and handbell choir. Evelyn also played the organ for numerous weddings and funerals. Evelyn was a humble and hard-working woman, always dedicated to serving others.
Her memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 30 at Christ Lutheran Church in New Bloomfield. A Gathering of Friends and Family will take place downstairs from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary. Guests are asked to arrive no later than 10:45 AM to allow time for parking and seating. A graveside inurnment service will be held on Tuesday, September 2 at 11:00 AM at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hanover.
In lieu of flowers, Evelyn requested that memorial donations be made to the Handbell Music Fund of Christ Lutheran Church, 46 West High Street, PO Box 448, New Bloomfield, PA 17068, or to the Handbell Music Fund of St. Bartholomew’s United Church, 1204 Grand Valley Road, Hanover, PA 17331.
