Edward Micheal Landis, known as “Mike”, age 71 of Elliottsburg, joined his Heavenly Father on July 14, 2023 ending his 22 year courageous battle with cancer. Born in Lancaster to the late Claude B and Edna C (Bennett) Landis, Mike is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Kathleen L (Flickinger) Landis; three children: Michele D (Barry) Braxton of Shermans Dale, Christopher M (Ashleigh) Landis of Pottsville, and Nicholas J (Lisa) Landis of Linglestown; eight grandchildren: Marguerite, Hunter, Colin, Demitrius, Grayson, Phoenyx, Riley, and Charleigh; and two siblings: Kathleen E Landis of Harrisburg and Harvey B Landis and Dana Marker of Mechanicsburg. In addition to his parents, Mike is preceded in death by his brother, Claude Bruce Landis II.
After graduating with the West Perry High School Class of 1970, Mike continued his education at Harrisburg Area Community College, where he earned his HVAC Certificate, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Mike retired from ABC Fuels in 2015 as a HVAC Technician. His career also included Roadmaster for Saville Township (1978-1983), JRD,LLC, Montour Oil, Agway, CH Burns, Little Buffalo State Park, as well as Harvey B Landis General Contracting, for which he worked 22 years.
Mike also loved to serve his community. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church of New Bloomfield, a lifetime honorary member of Knights of Columbus Chapter 11805, from which he earned his Third Degree, and a judge with the prestigious Kansas City BBQ Society Judges and BBQ Brethern. He fulfilled his passion for the great outdoors by hunting, fishing, trapping, and camping. His passionate memberships included PA Trapper’s Association, PA State Hunter’s Organization, and Hunters’ Valley Sportsman Association of Liverpool. Mike and his wife have camped in over half of Pennsylvania’s State Parks, and almost all its National Forests.
Memorial services for Mike will be held at St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, 811 Shermans Valley Road, New Bloomfield, on Saturday, July 22. The Memorial Gathering of Friends will be from 9 to 11 AM, followed by the Memorial Christian Mass at 11, conducted by Father Sam Dubois. Final commondation and farewell will be in Bloomfield Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
