Dorothy Sheaffer Berrier, age 90 and a lifelong Perry County resident, joined her Heavenly Father on March 22, 2022. Born at home on June 12, 1931 to the late Layton C. Sheaffer and Edna Gensler Sheaffer, Dorothy “Dot” was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, George A. Berrier, and her brother, Layton W. Sheaffer. Dorothy is survived by her two daughters: Jill Berrier (Lloyd) Freeman and Lisa Ellen Berrier, both of Enola; two grandchildren: Erin Freeman (Matt) Moyer of Elizabethtown, and Ethan (Amberlynn) Freeman of Harrisburg; and sisters-in-law, Rena Adams and Katie Sheaffer, both of New Bloomfield.
Dot graduated from Blain Union High School in 1948. She enjoyed organizing and attending her class reunions to celebrate long friendships. She married the love of her life, George, on June 23, 1952, and stayed home with their two daughters during their early years. Later, Dot worked in the Perry County Treasurer’s Office for almost 20 years until her retirement.
Dot was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of New Bloomfield. She was an avid reader of all genres of books, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and was a 35-year member of a Pinochle Club. She also enjoyed camping trips with her family and friends. Aside from spending time with her family, Dot found great pleasure in her flower gardens. She loved planting and adding new varieties of flowers each Spring to enjoy throughout the Summer.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
