Donald J. Junk, 87 years young of Carlisle, died Saturday, June 1, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family. Don was born May 21, 1937, in Mifflintown to the late James Milton and Beatrice (Jacob) Junk. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Linda C. (Rice) Junk; three children: Dawn Lynn Junk, Mary Catherine Kulick, and Andrew Scott Junk; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and his sister: Gayle Foltz of Carlisle. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Richard Junk.
Don graduated with the Class of 1955 of Juniata Joint High School. After a single year of college for chemical engineering, he enlisted and proudly served his country in the United State Army from 1956 to 1959. Don earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with Penn State’s Class of 1967. Upon return to civilian life, Don worked as an electrical engineer for McCoys Electronic in Mt. Holly Springs, and then retired from Verizon (Harrisburg) in 2004.
Don was a quiet and introspective gentleman who valued his privacy. He had a deep passion for music, particularly enjoying playing the piano and organ. As computers became more prevalent, he developed an avid interest in coding and programming them. Additionally, he had a keen appreciation for antiques and loved to collect them.
Don’s graveside funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, June 7 at McCoysville Cemetery (Tuscarora Township, Juniata County), with Pastor Robert Rice, Jr. officiating. The family will be meeting in Loysville at Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc. and leaving no later than 11 AM to drive in procession to McCoysville Cemetery. Military Honors will be a part of the graveside service.
