Dean S. Sherman, age 94, fondly known as “Charlie”, of Shermans Dale died on February 1, 2022 at the hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born at home on December 28, 1927 to the late John Ray and Annie (Baughman) Sherman of Landisburg, Dean was a doting and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Alice (Morrison) Sherman, four children: Bradley (Linda) Sherman of Millerstown, Gregory (Eunice) Sherman, Cathy Sherman, and Pamela Sherman, all of Shermans Dale; four grandchildren: Stacy (Erik) Hansbury of Ickesburg, Mark (Kelly) Sherman of Liverpool, Christopher (Katie) Sherman of Landisburg, and Timothy (Kelly) Sherman of Shermans Dale; and ten great grandchildren: Madisyn, Ryleigh, Chloe, Tyler, Lilyan, Kenzie, Bey, Savannah, Grady and Caleb. In addition to his parents, Dean is preceded in death by all his siblings: Chester Sherman, Paul Sherman, Harold Sherman, Glenn Sherman, and Hazel Sherman.
After high school, Dean proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. While in the service, he earned the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. After returning home, he became an Inventory Clerk for Raub’s Supply Company in Harrisburg. He worked for Raub’s for 40 years and retired in 1994.
Dean was hard-working and used his mechanical and organizational skills to fix, build, and repair whatever was broken. He was very particular about the condition of both his home and lawn. He was a quiet man, but when he chose to speak, the words were important. He played church team softball, refused to procrastinate (or allow others to), and had a phenomenal memory.
Funeral services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dean’s name to the American Heart Association online at https://www.heart.org/en/get-involved/ways-to-give
Arrangements entrusted to Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc of Loysville.
