Clair E. Milliken, fondly known as “Tuscarora Slim”, age 71 of Elliottsburg, unexpectedly passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on May 20, 2024. Born at home on August 1, 1952 to the late Mark C. and Minnie A. (Gamble) Milliken of East Waterford, Clair is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Bonnie M. (Shaffer) Milliken; his son, Jeremy A. Milliken (Natasha) of Ickesburg; his granddaughter, Nikita N. Milliken; two siblings: Verna I. Williams and Dennis W. Milliken, both of East Waterford; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Clair is preceded in death by his brother, James R. Milliken, who died in 2017.
Clair graduated with the Juniata Joint High School Class of 1970, and continued his education at Central Penn Business School, where he completed his associate’s degree in accounting, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He retired from the Naval Support Activity (NSA) Mechanicsburg as a supply specialist in the navigations systems department, after many years of service.
In his free time, Clair was an active member of the Ickesburg Sportsmen’s Association. He volunteered his time at breakfasts and taught hunter’s safety to many of Perry and Juniata Counties’ hunters. He was a member of Perry County Regulators, which was started in 1999 as a committee of the Ickesburg Sportsmen’s Association to promote Cowboy Action Shooting and the philosophy that the sport promotes. He combined his love of mentoring youth and the outdoors by assisting with 4-H Rocketry and Boy Scouts of America. Naturally, he was a proud member of the National Rifle Association. He was passionate about playing guitar, singing with his granddaughter, fishing, hunting, and rocketry. He played in a local band for 17 years called the “Lone Rose Band.” His family will always cherish him as their lovable stubborn old man.
