Charles L. Guyer, 91 of Elliottsburg, went home to be with the Lord on March 1, 2022 at Cumberland Crossing, Carlisle. Born June 13, 1930 in Delaware Township, Juniata County to the late David and Gladys (Miller) Guyer, Charles is survived by his three children: Shawn (Laura) Guyer of Elliottsburg with whom he resided, Sandy (Ken) Baughman, and Sue Guyer, both of Loysville; five grandchildren: Jacob (Jamie) Baughman, Abbey (John) Merendino, Julie Baughman, Patrick Guyer, and Jeffrey Baughman; two great grandchildren: Camden and Reese; seven siblings: Jay (Dolly) Guyer of East Salem, Dale Guyer, Carol Kemp, and Bonnie Guyer, all of Thompsontown, Gloria Delancey of Mifflintown, Catherine (Don) Cramer of Richfield, and Darlene (Jim) Corrigan of Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Ada (Kretzing) Guyer, and his parents, Charles was preceded in death by six siblings: Patricia Hess, George Guyer, David Guyer, Allen Guyer, Karl Guyer and Wharton Guyer.
On August 2, 1952 Charles married his late wife, Ada (Kretzing) Guyer, with whom he was blessed to share more than 65 years. He retired from Harrisburg State Hospital. After retiring, he drove a bus for Capital Area Intermediate Unit. He then worked as a gas station attendant at Mohler’s/Swenson’s in New Bloomfield. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he served in Germany during the Korean War. He was an active member of the Mannsville Lutheran Church in Elliottsburg, where he served on Council and taught Sunday School for many years.
Charles and his late wife enjoyed walking at Little Buffalo State Park and tended the Butterfly Garden there for several years. They enjoyed taking produce from their garden to the local fairs for competitions. Drives in the 1965 Dodge Truck and eating out were two of his later joys. Charles love of God and his family were his greatest joys.
Funeral services for Charles will be held on Monday, March 7 at the Mannsville Lutheran Church in Elliottsburg. The viewing will be held in the Sunday School room from 9:30 to 11 AM. The funeral service will be held in the Sanctuary at 11 AM, with Pastor Kevin O’Bryan officiating. Interment will follow the funeral at Elliottsburg Cemetery (in the bend of the road beside the body shop). Memorial contributions may be made in Charles’ name to Mannsville Lutheran Church, 2944 Mannsville Road, Elliottsburg, PA 17024.
