Candace Ann (Wright) Shanafelter, better known as “Candy”, age 71 of Shermans Dale, passed away at her home and surrounded by her family on August 4, 2025. Born in Harrisburg on June 7, 1954, to the late Billy A. and Constance J. (Super) Wright, Candy is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Richard L. Shanafelter; four children: Eric S. Shanafelter of Shermans Dale, Daniel L. Shanafelter (Desiree) of York, Tiffany L. Nesbit (Daniel) and Shawn M. Shanafelter (Shannan) – both of Shermans Dale; ten grandchildren: Hannah, Russell, Ethan, Mason, Brenya, Zeryn, Aiyana, Alina, Ava, and Treva; and her sister, Tamea Cassell of Duncannon. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Candy graduated with the Class of 1972 of Susquenita High School, married a year later, and enjoyed raising her family and running the household. She was a homemaker who also worked part-time as a cashier at area retail businesses. She retired in 2020.
Candy had two passions in her life. One was her grandchildren! The second was playing bingo. She would play 12 to 15 cards at a time and enjoyed playing at Shermans Dale Fire Company, Duncannon Ambulance Squad, Marysville Church of God, as well as in Carlisle.
Candy’s family is planning a Celebration of Life for a future date. If you wish to make a memorial donation in Candy’s name, please contribute to the American Cancer Society online at https://donate.cancer.org/?campaign=honormemorialmedia&utm_source=google
