Bruce R. Markel, Sr.

Bruce Rodger Markel, Sr., 89y 3m 21d, entered into rest on Saturday,

April 1, 2023, at 8:30 a.m. in the Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center in Enola, where he was a patient for two days.

He was born in Elizabethville, Dauphin County on December 11, 1933. Bruce, son of the late John Edwin and Mary Esther Miller Markel was married in Lykens on November 12, 1955, to the former Catherine Elizabeth Messner, who survives. Besides his wife, Bruce is survived by a son, Bruce Robin Markel of Loysville, and by a daughter, Susan M. Lebo and her fiance, Anthony M. Garisto of Middletown. Bruce was preceded in death by two brothers: Raymond Markel and Elvin Markel. He was a member of the Tressler Memorial Free Lutheran Church, Loysville and was a graduate of the Elizabethville High School, Class of 1952.

He was well known as an unbelievable mechanic and also made and molded radio-controlled airplanes.

After graduating from high school, he was employed at the Olmsted Air Force Base in Middletown. He later was employed as the Maintenance

Foreman at the Sunnydale Farm and retired in 1997 as the Maintenance Manager of the Jewish Home of Greater Harrisburg. He also owned and operated Markel's Custom Arrows with his family in Loysville.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 11:00 AM. At Nickel-Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3626 Shermans Valley Road, Loysville. Pastor David K. Lusk will officiate. Interment will be at Restland Cemetery, Loysville. Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
