Beverly J. Garress, known to her grandchildren as both “Nana” and “Mom Mom”, age 89 of Mechanicsburg, passed away surrounded by her loving family on November 22, 2024. Born at home on January 9, 1935 to the late John H. and Elizabeth (Murray) Syphard of Caln Township, Beverly is survived by two children: Robin L. Compton of Millerstown and Franklin J. Garress (Bonnie) of Chillicothe, OH; five grandchildren: Nick Garress (Jill) of Columbus, OH, Miranda Rinehart (Ryan) of Chillicothe, OH, Joanna Rine (Justin) of Shermans Dale, Thomas Compton of Millerstown, and Kelly Compton (Benny) of Thompsontown; six great grandchildren: Reid, Gracie, Rocky, Ruby, Tyler, and Macey. In addition to her parents, Beverly is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years, Frank E. Garress, Jr., who died in March 2024; two children: Kathleen M. Garress and Dennis L Garress (infant); and all her siblings: William Syphard, Ellsworth Syphard, Jane Bannon, Geraldine Goody, Virginia Write, Edna Chesnet, and Anna Sandoe. Beverly is also survived by Frank’s siblings that meant so much to her: Mary Ann Scott of Lady Lake, FL, Darlene Painter of New Castle, DE, Eugene Dietz of FL, and Richard Dietz of both Lewes, DE and Ocala, FL.
Beverly was a spirited lady. She loved her family immensely and they meant the world to her. In her younger years, she loved to go out dancing and staying up all night to tape Elvis’ movies. The family would be remiss to omit mentioning Bev’s phenomenal famous chocolate cake. In addition to working, raising a family, and running a household, Beverly made dozens of crocheted blankets, painted, and enjoyed playing in the snow. Beverly’s family would like to thank nieces Carol Borelly and Paula Bedrick (Don) for their support and visits to Beverly.
Beverly worked for many years, and retired, as a production worker for Wyeth Laboratories. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #845 in Downingtown. Over the years, Beverly donated over 30 pints of blood to the American Red Cross.
The funeral services for Beverly will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements entrusted to Nickel Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc.
