 Richard Garnet Shaffer, 87, of Waynesboro, was called home Tuesday, January 30th, at Leland of Laural Run.

Richard was born in Pond Bank, Pennsylvania on September 3, 1930, a son of the late Mary V. and Joseph M. Shaffer.

He grew up in New Guilford Twp., Pond Bank area and Waynesboro. When he was younger he attended the Pond Bank Mennonite Church. He was later baptized at the Faith United Methodist Church.

On March 29, 1952 he was married to his late wife Eleanor S. Shaffer who died on December 22, 2016.

He attended the Chambersburg School system and was a graduate of Electronic Research Institute of Maryland.

He served in the U.S. Army as a Cpl in the Korean War where he earned an Occupation Medal Germany: and National Defense Service Medal.

He was employed as a Maintenance Mechanic at Waynesboro Knitting Company.  Upon retiring from the Knitting company, he operated the Washington Twp. transfer station.

He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church

Richard is survived by three children, Stanley Evan Daywalt and his wife Elaine, of Winchester, VA, Dan Hagan Shaffer and wife Susan and Scott Richard Shaffer and his wife Kathy all of Waynesboro, 6 grandchildren, Stanton Daywalt, twins Sarah Daywalt and Laura Tyler and her husband Steven, Stephanie Shaffer, Bryce Shaffer and Ryan Shaffer, three great grandchildren Jordon, Brooks and Natalie, special nieces Marcella Bingham, Carolyn L. Lloyd, Phillis Franke, Julie McClain, Sue Fulk, Mary Ellen Bonebrake and Sally McCadden. Richard is also survived by two sisters, Leah Shaffer Kipe, of Chambersburg; Donna Hobbs; four brothers, David C. Shaffer, of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; Ralph M. Shaffer, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; Roger Shaffer, and Donald Shaffer. Preceded in death by John S. Shaffer; Joe M. Shaffer; Kenneth Shaffer; Daniel Shaffer and Esther Shaffer Yeager.
