Shermans Dale, PA
Forrest G. “Screwdriver” McKown, age 76 of Shermans Dale was called home on Tuesday morning, May 15, 2018 at home with his family by his side.
Born, May 28, 1941 in “Wanego” Newton, West Virginia he was the son of the late Orland Forest “Dick” and Ruth Emogene ( Cook) McKown.
Forrest began working in the oil and gas industry and later became an over the road truck driver for Bell Lines and Smith Transfer in Charleston, West Virginia. He relocated to Pennsylvania with Smith Transfer and later worked for Carolina Freight, Consolidated Freight Ways and retired from Roadway Express. He ended his driving career of 35 years with the Teamsters Union Local 175 and 776 after logging 3.5 million miles.
He was a member of the Clay County Masonic Lodge #97 A.F.& A.M., Clay, West Virginia; Member of The House of Prayer, Maysel, West Virginia and attended New Life Assembly of God Church, Landisburg, Pennsylvania.
He is survived by his loving wife Neva J. (Stephens) McKown; two sons, John K. and his wife Angela McKown of East Berlin, and James K. “Rebel” and his wife Chanda McKown of Elliottsburg; five grandchildren, Tiffany Weary her fiancée Stephen Gronski of Annville, PA; Kristen Grose of Charleston, W.V.; the twins Wade McKown of Virginia Beach, VA and Bruce and his wife Ellie Mae McKown of Shermans Dale and Ashley McKown of Charleston, WV.; two great grandchildren Owen Weary and Skyler Grose and an expected great grandchild due in September; five step grandchildren, Kevin Gronski; Butch Miller; Kyler Morehead; Brookelyn Morehead and Austin Cogar; five brothers and sisters Guy and Rita McKown , Left Hand, WV.; Travis E. McKown of Charleston, WV.; Reta and Hobert Salisbury of Wallback, WV.; Philip Burl and Shelley McKown of Frametown, WV.; David and Nellie McKown of Wallback, WV. and a sister-in-law Maxine and David Charles and a special friend David Ferrebee. He is preceded in death by a brother Arthur Blake McKown of Waynesburg, Ohio.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 12 noon to 2 P.M. at the New Life Assembly of God Church, 397 Bridgeport Rd, Landisburg, PA 17040 followed by a Memorial Service at 2 P.M. in the church. Rev. Allen Lane and Rev. James Paxton to officiate. Interment to follow in Landisburg Cemetery.
