Dean Leroy Sheaffer, Sr. age 73, of Shermans Dale, PA died on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at his home

Born July 30, 1944 in Markelsville, PA he was the son of the late Graffius C. and Dorothy M. (Orris) Sheaffer.

He was a graduate of Newport High School.

He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War where he was a sharp shooter and in addition to his other honors received the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.

He was the husband of Kathleen Sheaffer.

Dean had been employed for over 35 years with the United Parcel Service (UPS).

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.  He loved all sports and was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Eagles fan.  He had played baseball with Ickesburg and New Bloomfield and won MVP of the league in 1982.  Dean was known as a family-oriented man.

He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Markesville; VFW – New Bloomfield;

American Legion Newport and Loyal Order of Owls, Newport.

In addition to his wife, Dean is survived by one son, Dean Sheaffer, Jr. and his wife Karen of Harrisburg and several nieces and nephews.   He is preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 20, 2018 from 9 AM to 11 AM in the Nickel-Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc., 3626 Sherman’s Valley Road, Loysville, PA 17047 followed by a service at 11 AM Interment with full military honors conducted by The Perry County Honor Guard, will be held at Youngs United Methodist Church Cemetery, Shermans Dale, PA.
