David Trout Obituary

Blain, Pennsylvania

David Alvin Trout, age 91 of Blain was called to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at his home with his family by his side.

Born July 24, 1928 in Newport, PA, he was the son of the late Charles and Irene (Smith) Trout.

Mr. Trout was a 1946 graduate of Newport High School.

Upon graduation, David enlisted in the US Army where he served during the US occupation of Japan in the infantry.

After several years employed by the railroad, he purchased the home farm in Blain, PA where he would enjoy the next 60 plus years of his life.  Dave, along his wife Elizabeth “Lib”, raised their five children on the farm, working hard to expand the dairy herd until his two sons eventually purchased in 1983.  Dave cared about people, especially those in need. While working his second job at Loysville Youth Development Center (YDC), he would mentor the teens by having them stay with the family, and work on the farm when possible.  Eventually retiring from YDC in the early 1990’s, he spent his free time helping at the farm with his boys or visiting with his daughters. Always busy, Dave found time for his grandchildren and extended family. After the passing of his wife Elizabeth in 1999 after 47 wonderful years of marriage, he spent 15 very happy years married to Phyllis Mohler.  He loved trail riding on horseback, playing cards with his brothers, gardening at Ned’s, and attending Penn State Nittany Lions football games with friends.

He was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Blain.

He is survived by four children and their spouses; D. Michael Trout and his wife Gail of Loysville; Shelby Howell and her husband Jim of Newport; Jeff Trout and his wife Tammy of Blain; and Cristie Latzer and her husband Bob of Harrisburg; twelve grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren as well as two step children and four step grandchildren; and five brothers and sisters Julia Shull; Frank Trout; Larry Trout; Lois Quickel, and Stewart Trout.  He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Rhea Trout and second wife Phyllis S. Mohler.  He was also preceded in death by a daughter Donna Morris. In addition, two brothers and a sister preceded his death; Lloyd Trout; Silvia Fahnestock; and Jay Trout.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 10 AM to 11 AM at the Nickel-Lochstampfor Family Funeral Home, Inc., 3626 Shermans Valley Road, Loysville, PA followed by a funeral service at 11 AM with Rev. Paul Gehris and Rev. Michael Rev. Boehm officiating.  Interment in Blain Cemetery.
