Betty Rockwell Obituary

Loysville, Pennsylvania

Betty J. (Yohn) Rockwell, age 95 of Loysville, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, November 11th at Chapel Pointe, Carlisle PA.

She belonged to the Green Grove Sunday School, where she taught the adult class for 24 years and provided transportation for all the children and anyone who wished to attend.

Betty was also an active member of the Church of the Living Christ of Loysville.  She loved the Lord, her family, and friends – always putting others before herself.  She loved gardening, going on covered wagon trail rides, taking her grandchildren camping, continuing the family tradition of making homemade apple butter for over 50 years including at Blain Heritage Days, attending the many Blain Picnic Grounds annual events, backyard bird-watching, walks along the creek, traveling to see friends and family, volunteering at the Southwest Madison Township voting polls, and many hours of playing cards.  If you didn’t find Betty volunteering or working outdoors on the farm, you could find her making a delicious home-cooked meal, watching her favorite “stories” Guiding Light, canning fruits and vegetables from her garden, or her favorite pastime – sitting on her porch, with her little dog Tricky, overlooking the beautiful Hidden Valley.

Surviving are five children: Nancy J.E. Rockwell of Annville, Charles E. Rockwell, Jr. of Loysville, B. Lorene Morrow of Loysville, Jeanie R. Sites and David of Loysville, Dwaine R. Rockwell and Judy of Loysville; 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; two brothers Richard D. Yohn of Blain and Carl E. Yohn of Camp Hill; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles E. Rockwell, Sr.; parents: Ralph R. Yohn, Sr. and Mary E. (Neidigh) Yohn; and three sisters and two brothers: Ralph R. Yohn, Jr., Louise M. Rockwell, Ray E. Yohn, Joan I. McGarvey, and Ruby J. Shanafelter.

The family will receive friends to celebrate Betty’s life on Saturday, November 16, 2019 from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the Church of the Living Christ, 2401 Fort Robinson Road, Loysville, PA, followed by a service at 11 A.M. with Rev. Dr. Dorn Wray officiating.  Following the service, she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in Blain Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church of the Living Christ, 2401 Fort Robinson Road, Loysville, PA or Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA.
